The story begins
I dug up dead rats and chased away snakes, and after twenty years of looking after the garden, I thought nothing could surprise me anymore. At least that’s what I thought until I noticed something strange curled up at the edge of my flower bed. At first glance, it just looked like a small snake, but when I got closer, I froze in my tracks. The creature had tiny arms. Just two, as if it had started to form legs but then given up. My instinct told me that something was very wrong. I carefully placed it in a jar and took it to the vet looking for answers. He took one look at it, went rigid and shouted, “Call 112 immediately!” I couldn’t believe what I then heard…

As I walked through the door of the clinic, I felt a strange mixture of curiosity and fear. I held the small pot tightly in my hand and approached the receptionist. “Hello, I need someone to take a look at this,” I asked, showing her the unusual animal. Her eyes widened and without hesitation, she quickly led me into the examination room. A knot tightened in my stomach as I waited for the vet, Dr. Allen, to arrive.
