In 1958, her husband was triumphantly re-elected to the Senate. She deserved credit for helping with this. As a matter of fact, JFK once shared that her support and appearances during the campaign period had been “simply invaluable.” She did the same thing during his bid for the presidency. Despite this, she had many other concerns of her own at this time. Two weeks after her husband won the presidential race, she went into labor and delivered their first son! John F. Kennedy, Jr. was named after his father.

A Popular First Lady
It was not a given that she would be popular as the first lady. Jackie went on more official international trips than those who came before her. In 1963, she had to take it easy with a new baby on the way. Sadly, Patrick died from hyaline membrane disease not long after he was born five weeks premature.
