Amy Carlson eventually explained that she decided to leave the show because she was hoping to move on with her acting career. Carlson said that Donny Wahlberg, who was her onscreen husband, was a “generous” guy and had been “sweet about her departure.” The actress also said that she knew it was going to come as a surprise not only to her fans but also to her castmates. But her contract had already expired, and she wanted to pursue other things in life.

He asked for the team to write off Eric, his character, so that he can focus on his film career. The filming schedule for the sitcom made it hard for him to acquire movie gigs, after all. His departure on the show led to a drop in ratings. After he left, Ashton Kutcher followed suit. The sitcom was canceled not long after that. Over the years, Grace has appeared in movies such as Take Me Home Tonight and Spider-Man 3, so it looked like his gamble paid off in the end!
