Fans were heartbroken when Matthew Crawley, played by Dan Stevens, got killed off during the third season of Downton Abbey. According to Town and Country, the actor is “still apologizing” for how things went down. The producers of the show revealed that the only “credible” way to write off the character was to have him die. Asked why he requested to get out of the show, Stevens said that he did not want to renew the contract so that he could pursue other roles. Among other things, he has recently appeared in a Netflix comedy called Eurovision.

Another TV death that broke the hearts of fans across the globe would be that of George O’Malley on Grey’s Anatomy. It was very sudden, so there was no way for viewers of the show to have prepared for it. Actor T.R. Knight had a pretty unique reason for leaving the medical drama. At the time, he had already worked on five seasons of the hit show. According to the actor, he made up his mind to leave thanks to the creative differences between him and Shonda Rhimes, the creator of the show. Considering the immense popularity of the show, we are sure that both parties took the contract negotiations seriously. In the end, ABC and Knight agreed that this was the best course of action.
