In one of the tunnels in Paris, Xavier Gourmelon and a team of French firefighters were called to evacuate the victims of a car crash. However, none of the firefighters knew who was involved in the accident. Gourmelon then recognized who was the victim of the car crash, and he realized that the words she uttered might have been the last!
The team managed to take a blonde woman out of the wreck cautiously. The firefighter moved closer to understand her properly because she only had limited comprehension and spoke nearly inaudible words as they got her out.
A Crash In The Tunnel
They were trying to determine if anyone remained in the vehicle since the hood of the luxury car had been destroyed. They also believe that one of the men was already dead inside. He saw the blonde woman breathing faintly.
A Mercedes Benz W140
There were people inside the Mercedes-Benz W140 that crashed inside the tunnel, so ten firemen were called to flee to the Pont d’ Alma underpass, and Gourmelon was one of them.
The Mysterious Woman
Gourmelon had no idea about the patient’s identity as he helped get her out of the car, but when they got her off the road, the woman was reasonably stable. So it was shocking she died in hospital.
It was quite a shock for him that he later discovered that Diana, Princess of Wales, was the lady he saved because he was focused on their mission of responding and protecting the victims of the car accident he did not first notice in the vehicle.
It Was All Natural
Since she has mingled with some aristocracy members since she became a teenager, Diana Spencer was very acquainted with the royal family. Her house was situated near the royal estate of Sandringham and was often able to see the arrival of royal family members.
She wasn’t as fortunate, however, when it came to her studies that she wanted to cope by serving in menial jobs, but it seems as if Diana was destined for bigger and better things. She eventually fell in a position that completely transformed her and her family’s lives.
Prince Charles was dating Diana’s sister, but as Diana grew up, she slowly turned into a charming woman and had a gentle manner that eventually attracted Charles, Prince of Wales.
Diana and Charles became serious soon afterward. In 1981 Diana joined the royal family with a widely televised wedding. Millions of people around the world watched Diana exchange their vows on their TV screens to Prince Charles at the ceremony.
Rules And Traditions
Initially, a royal date would be believed to be a dream. Diana could not correctly comply with rigid laws and traditions in the royal family. Nevertheless, the princess later discovered that her life was a nightmare, particularly when she had her first child pregnant.
Center Of Attention
Even in private places where she shouldn’t expect them, she was hounded by the media. Diana thought the role she occupied was lacking, and she induced her discontent. The press documented every step of her life, every gesture captured by the continually stalking Paparazzi.
It All Became Too Much
To Diana, all of this was too much. She couldn’t bear the constant pressure all the time. In later years Diana discovers that her only cause of torment will not be the pressure from the spotlight.
What The Public Didn’t Know
Ordinary people will see her and think she had a perfect life. Diana and her husband both allegedly had their love affairs involved. It was an ugly mess, and that is the truth.
For Diana, it was a struggle to remain optimistic for the world Diana was found to have mental breakdowns and eating disorders, but she always seemed happy when she was out and about.
The Final Straw
Charles’s affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles was seemingly the final straw, but Diana could not resolve this epic affair. The affair was too open without caring for the state of mind of Diana.
She Was All Alone
In 1996, Diana and Charles addressed their divorce, but since 1992 they had been living separately. Diana was so upset about the breakup. She almost had nobody to console her, giving her even more misery.
A tabloid newspaper claimed that Diana had only a couple of people she called real friends. It was a good thing that her romantic life bloomed after her marriage ended.
Many Men In Her Life
Diana received numerous suitors. It was reported that although they were married, filings were recorded, along with James Hewitt, a cavalry officer, and Paul Mannakee, a bodyguard.
After Gilbey’s tapes calling her Squidgy were released, Diana had to put an end to her affair with a car dealer, James Gilbey. Of course, the newspapers are crazy about the news like everyone else.
Her Life In Private
When she met heart surgeon Hasnat Khan, Diana seemed to find happiness. Besides, Diana told her friends she considered Khan incredibly special. They had an utterly discreet relationship with the public.
A Serious Relationship
As she toured Royal Brompton Hospital in London, she saw the doctor for the first time. The relationship between Khan and Diana is a serious one with marriage talks stated by Vanity Fair.
Laying Low, Walking Away
Diana tried to discuss a secret wedding with Khan, but he refused. Instead, he suggested going to Pakistan, where no media could antagonize their affair. And the proposal is said to have been taken seriously by Diana.
Her Friend From Pakistan
Diana revealed the doctor’s feelings to her friend Imran Khan, now Pakistan’s prime minister. But the relationship between Diana and the surgeon ultimately dissolved.
She went to the ballet and even met Mother Teresa before finally giving the cover of Vanity Fair in July 1997. Despite the feelings of sorrow, Diana stuck to her schedules.
St. Tropez With The Boys
At the moment, Diana was invited to a holiday in St. Tropez by the billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed. On that holiday, She took Prince William and Prince Harry, their children, to Al-Fayed’s villa.
Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed reportedly started their romance during this trip. We bet she had no worry about the world with the sun and sea on their backs. Diana, William, and Harry all had a great time on their journey.
Although Diana was on vacation, the press kept hounding her and taking pictures of her jet ski sailing. She announced to reporters in an emergency press briefing that they would be stunned by what she would do next. It sounded like there’s an unsettling message to these words.
Their St. Tropez’s vacation was only the start of their new relationship. When they lived in St. Tropez together, Diana and Dodi were not strangers. Both of them were simply mixed with the same groups.
Since Dodi was the billionaire’s oldest son, he certainly was raised with luxury and extravagance. Dodi took on his own path as a film producer with Chariots of Fire and Hook as one of his well-known projects.
Khan speculated Diana was already involved with someone else, some from the circle of Al-Fayed. After landing from St. Tropez in London, the surgeon admitted to the police that Diana ended their relationship.
A Dangerous Path
The Egyptian mogul was not particularly believed by Khan. He told Diana that and how he felt her connection with Dodi was dangerous for her.
Egyptian magnate’s son showered Diana with many lavish gifts to make his motives clear. Dodi was still engaged, but he seemed to be in love with Diana ultimately.
Gifts For The Princess
Diana looked happier than ever before. The room was filled with roses, and a Cartier watch is a costly tropical fruit. Diana returned the affection of Dodi, and both began their romance.
How Serious They Were
Vanity Fair has revealed that Dodi is planning a unique ring for the princess. Rumors began flying out of the couple’s reach. There are different opinions on the seriousness of the relationship between Diana and Dodi in 1997.
An Engagement On The Way
She would wear the piece of gem on her right hand, Diana would allegedly show to her friend Rosa Monckton. Monckton believed Diana only wanted to envy Khan. Unlike Monckton, Mohamed was sure that the pair would shortly declare their engagement.
Simply In Love
The two had left for Sardinia at the end of July for a cruise. Regardless of what Khan’s polished present symbolized, it was clear that Diana and Dodi are happy together.
Off To Bosnia
In her smooth, bronzed skin, Diana looked fabulous. Her photos by the paparazzi showed her on a yacht relaxing during the next month as Diana visited Bosnia.
On 30 August 1997, they decided to dine in a Benoit restaurant. As August ended, the pair decided to revisit France. They went to Paris, staying at Hotel Ritz. A 2019 Daily Mirror article stated that Dodi requested the ring from the jeweler when Diana slept in their hotel suite.
The Matter With The Paparazzi
Plans suddenly changed as more than two dozen photographers stalked them on the way to the restaurant. They returned to their hotel and had dinner in the restaurant, Ritz L’Espadon.
Dodi was anxious at the masking as a guest of the paparazzi during their time at their table. Both had no choice but to return. The noisy paparazzi irritated both of them.
Stalked Once Again
Diana and Dodi planned to stay after dinner in the apartment near the Champs-Élysées. But they had a big challenge. The paparazzi tracked them quickly as they left the hotel for dinner earlier.
They Held A Stakeout
Both had evoked an elaborate escape plan. The main element of the idea was that two vehicles were to be a decoy and leave the front. Photographers certainly kept a stake and waited for them to leave the building.
In the meantime, although he had the night off, the hotel deputy head of security will chauffeur the pair. Paul, Dodi, Diana, and their bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones will drive through the rear exit. When the program was over, the sun started rising on 31 August just a few hours earlier.
The Ill-Fated Night
A few pictures were captured while they quickly drove away in the dark. Paparazzi claimed that they had failed an attempt to “block” the Mercedes.
They tried to slow the engine, but Paul continued driving at about 65 mph. Paul crossed lanes and put his foot on the pedal to get away from the aggressive camera crews. That’s when the tragedy happened.
Paul suddenly lost control when the vehicle hit the tunnel. Paul hit the wall and spun the car out of balance in the Pont de l’Alma Tunnel in Paris, France.
The Cause Of The Crash
When the police were looking for a cause for the collision, they found that paps were not close enough to cause it specifically. The investigation then discovered Paul, who had been intoxicated more than three times, caused the accident.
The Mercedes crashed into one of the median pillars, which killed Paul instantly, with so much energy. The paparazzi chose to take pictures instead of trying to help the passengers stuck inside, in light of the tragic accident and the enormous damage caused in their vehicle.
Fortunately, a team of firefighters in a nearby station first responded with an emergency call. These workers didn’t know what the crash site was about to find.
The unit deployed for that night was led by Gourmelon. He will report his team’s analysis to The Sun in 2017. “The car has been in a mess, and it is just like any road accident that we handle.”
Who Was Involved?
It’s often hard to recognize both the people involved and the vehicle itself when a serious accident occurs. “… We had to work straight to figure out who needed help and who was alive.”.
“This was just an ordinary car crash for me–one of many emergency services to contend with–and the normal reasons: speed and a drunk driver.” The retired firefighter said.
Nothing More To Do
He knew at once that Paul could not be saved anymore. “I already saw the driver was already dead, and when I arrived at the vehicle, nothing could be done for him,” the newspaper told him.
Saving The Remaining Passengers
Sadly, Dodi, though he sat at the back, had the same fate. In the ambulance, he had a heart attack, and the paramedics declared his death time later, as his body went out of the car.
The bodyguard of Diana would not rest, he just wished to know the status of Diana. Rees-Jones was severely injured, but luckily, he survived the crash. During the time they were trapped inside, Diana’s security was his immediate concern.
It has been reported that Rees-Jones has repeatedly told Diana to relax, despite warnings from firefighters. Gourmelon eventually said that nobody could talk English to the bodyguard, forcing him to sit silently.
It was Gourmelon who saw Diana that he instantly failed to recognize. That night, she was only a blonde woman. Since she was conscious and kept her eyes open, he assumed that she would survive.
He Was Clueless
When she was found lying on the floor trying to move, he was clueless about her identity. They immediately got her out when they spotted her. As they planned to get her back, Gourmelon supplied Diana with oxygen.
In this interview, the former firefighter shared what Diana told him: “It was only when she was put in the ambulance that one of the Paramedics told me[ Princess Diana]. He said to The Sun
As she examined her wounds and had murmured something, Diana was still conscious. She could have told her last words then. The crash abruptness shocked her, and she asked, “My God, what happened?
Dazed And Confused
The crash occurred as Gourmelon and fellow firefighters, Diana was as surprised. If she had one, Gourmelon did not discuss her reaction but spoke of what happened afterward.
“I brought[ Diana] some oxygen, and my colleagues and I were with her while she had been pulled from the car. It was very easy, so we didn’t have to cut off any wreck.” The princess had a heart attack when Diana was moved to a stretcher.
A Heart Attack
Gourmelon immediately replied, thinking it worked fine. He told The Sun, “I was massaging her heart, and some seconds later, she was beginning to breathe again.” He felt relieved at that moment he thought that everything would be all right.
A First Responder’s Duty
He added, “It was a relief, of course, because you want to save lives as a first responder–and that’s what I thought I’d done.” Little did he know, something significant would happen a few minutes later.
No Severe Injuries
His team and Gourmelon hoped the princess could survive. They saw no blood, and the only injury they could find was not even life-threatening.
Her Fate Awaits
They put her into the ambulance, and she headed off to the hospital where she had been waiting for her fate. Gourmelon and the rest of his team felt they had succeeded in bringing Diana to safety.
A Big Shock
Gourmelon was positive about Diana’s life chances. “To be frank, I figured she would survive.” They loaded her into the ambulance, but the squad received the news sometime after it drove to the hospital.
She Passed Away
The firefighter called his wife after an ambulance with Diana left the scene of a car crash to tell her what was happening. She said,” [ My wife] was unconscious when I informed her about Princess Diana and the incident. I said she had been exposed to a cardiac attack, but I can still save her.”
The Princess Is Gone
This was when the awful news came. At about four in the morning, they received the message. In the Paris car crash, Princess Diana and Dodi have been killed. When they woke up to the news, the world was stunned.
The World Was Distraught
The United Kingdom and the entire world were understandably disturbed by the sudden death of Princess Diana. Since hearing the Royals’ loss, the whole nation was grieving and stunned.
Everybody’s hearts went to Diana’s young boys, William and Harry. The pain these boys must have endured after hearing the awful news is something we can’t even begin to understand. The reports shocked the entire Royal family.
Two Decades Of Silence
Gourmelon kept the ill-fated night of August to 20 years. After his retirement, he only addressed the incident. To him, it was still a strong recollection, despite past years.
“I can still imagine the whole incident,” said the firefighter. “I’ll never forget this, and I always talk about it at this time of year.” It’s no joke that Gourmelon stepped into the shell with the sorrow and feeling of death.
After Diana’s passing, this was not the only revealed fact. Before her marriage ceremony, there are rumors about the incident. Diana said four words as she waited for the order to continue walking down the aisle. Your heart will be in touch with these four words.
Flashback, it might have been the clear sign of Princess Diana changing her wedding vows that her marriage wouldn’t do it. In reality, though, on her wedding day, she was nervous. She called her husband Philip Charles rather than Charles Philip while she was reciting her vows. She did everything she could not mix up the middle and first names.
Charles and Diana gave the very first interview since they got engaged in 1981. This could have been another hint that they wouldn’t end well. Charles went to Diana as if he was thinking of what he’d say if the reporter had asked the two if they were in love. She replied, “Of course,” with a scoff. Then Charles said, “Well, what is whatever in love means.”
Everything we learn about the personal lives of Princess Diana is thanks to the audiotapes she documented herself. She captured her side of the story on a series of recordings after she knew that her marriage to Prince Charles had failed. Then Dr. James Colthurst gave it to her close friend. Then he gave it to Andrew Morton, a journalist. Morton published the biography of Diana: Her True Story — In Her Own Words in 1992. Nobody knew Diana had a hand in the book’s creation until after she died.
Although there are ways to improve your sister bond, we do not know if sharing a boyfriend is one of them. He dated her sister Sarah before Diana and Charles had gone steady. She was the one who introduced the two when Diana was 16. She even called herself Cupid. She takes credit for them falling in love.
In The Kitchen
Eating in the kitchen itself with servants instead of in a dining room was against the royal family protocol. Princess Diana was no stranger to breaking protocol. Her personal chef, Darren McGrady, said she’d step into the kitchen and eat at a countertop while he is cleaning. She’d also make the two of them coffee.
Taking Her Own Life
One of the saddest admissions from the tapes is that she struggled with depression and even tried to take her own life. In her interviews, she said, “I was so distraught and wanted to cut my wrists with razor blades.” Also, she even spoke about bulimia, and how the eating disorder began when Prince Charles put his hand on its neck, and said, “A bit chubby here, aren’t we?”
In recent years, Prince William and Prince Harry have opened up more of their mother’s memories. While some are uplifting, others are not so heartwarming. They spoke about how Diana got involved in her charitable work. They even spoke of her experiences with the paparazzi. Prince William said once: “If you are the Princess of Wales, and a mother, I don’t think it’s appropriate for 30 men on bikes to chase you who spit at you to respond and make a woman cry out publicly to photograph. We had to live through that, Harry and I.
The wedding gown of Princess Diana looked like it had been taken directly from a fairytale. Moments before she had to go down the aisle, she spilled her perfume on it. Makeup artist Barbara Daly said she mistakenly drenched part of the gown with it. So then, Diana’s dress was lifted. Although it might seem that she did this so as not to trip on it, it was merely to cover the perfume spot with her hand.
The Shrinking Woman
It took no less than 15 items to get the wedding dress of Princess Diana. At last, her designers, Elizabeth and David Emanuel said they declined to dress her because she needed to lose too much weight when she first fitted. The height was 29 inches, but Diana was 23.5 inches slender. “Every time she turned up for the fitting, she had lost more weight,” said Elizabeth. “We had to keep taking the caraway and setting the pattern. The last thing that we wanted was to make it in silk and play with it.” “It was very complicated for us to design the dress. “
The fabrics have been described as Carrickmacross lace. It was very, very old. This came from vintage remnants acquired at auctions by her dress designers. This fabric dates back to Queen Mary’s day.
Behind Diana’s handcrafted wedding shoes was a strong romantic gesture. Since the top of the shoe had an elaborate heart, Clive Shilton, the shoemaker, had a distinctive pattern’ C’ and’ D’ on it. Nobody saw the feet’s edge, he said, but it looked amazing. If she’d tripped, you’d see much more!
There has been a record of 27 wedding cakes at their royal wedding to celebrate the marriage between Charles and Diana. Nevertheless, Charles cut in a ceremonial sword the 5-foot-tall cake made by the Naval Armed Forces. In addition to the usual decoration, the coat of arms of Prince Charles and the crest of the Spencer family, the originals “C” and “D” were painted, with flowers such as roses, valley lilies, and orchids on top.
The first English royal couple to break tradition, Diana and Charles, did not include “obedience” in their vows of marriage. Diana did not differ drastically from the standard promise to love comfort, honor, and keep him in sickness and health.”
When Diana and Charles wed in 1981, a British citizen hadn’t occupied the throne since 1660. Diana wouldn’t be the last commoner. Prince William’s partner— Cambridge’s Duchess, Kate Middleton, was also a commoner. Also, Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, was a commoner.
The famous wedding dress of Princess Diana had been made for Alexander McQueen by David and Elizabeth Emanuel. It had 10,000 pearls and had a 25-foot train. This is royal history’s longest train. The Princess added a 153-yard veil and silk shoes that had 542 sequins and 132 pearls, a tiara crafted in an 18th-century heirloom.
The iconic Garrard Jewelry Catalog was used to choose Diana’s engagement ring, a 12-carat sapphire collection with 14 diamonds and a white gold band. This is one of the few royal rings not customized. It was said that Diana remembered the wedding ring of her mother. The Duchess of Cambridge is now wearing the charm of sapphire.
After their marriage vows, the royal couple did not kiss, so they took charge with a public show of affection in the balcony outside Buckingham Palace. Their kiss established a tradition that continues to this day.
“In case of rain, Diana’s dress designers made her two umbrellas. They had both ivory and white so that for her big day, they would not reveal the color of the dress. Both of the umbrellas were designed to suit the dress with lace, sequins and pearls. In 2017, though, Elizabeth Emmanuel said she was glad that they didn’t have to be included, as “it had been made from lightweight materials so that they were not water-resistant.”
Three Wedding Dresses
The Emmanuels have made a backup and a duplicate dress for the Princess in the case of the gown being stolen or destroyed in addition to their original wedding dress. The alternative vanished after the marriage when the model was shown at Madame Tussauds. “It hung up for a long time in the studio, and then it disappeared,” said Elizabeth Emmanuel. “I don’t know if we sold or packed it, it’s been such a busy time. I’m certain that one day it’s going to turn up in a bag!”
Prince Charles was said to be standing at a window with a glimpse of people gathering outside the cathedral in advance of the wedding. The night before the big day, Prince Charles, 32, asked something about love from his now old valet Stephen. He then spoke to Stephen about his feelings. “Is it possible to love two men at the same time?” he asked his valet.
Neither Wanted It
She spoke of a moment just after her engagement with Prince Charles during one point in the recordings she had made. She thought she had to put the engagement down to her sisters. During the time of her involvement, Diana was twenty years old, and it was reported now she trusted her family to refuse to go to the wedding. ‘I went upstairs, I had lunch there with my sisters, and I said, ‘I can’t marry him. I can’t. I can’t do that. And they looked wonderful and said,’ Oh, bad luck, Duch. Your face is already on the tea towel, so you’re too late to chicken out.”
Several rehearsals were leading up to the wedding. However, they were 47 days before the big day. You’d want to work a lot if you’d be committed to the whole world!
Her Wedding Day
Princess Diana, as we remember, was not too sure about her relations with Prince Charles. We know that she didn’t want to wed, though. Diana later heard of her wedding day, which she labeled ‘the worst day of my life.’
And while we know Princess Diana, Prince Charles wasn’t perfect for each other. It wasn’t long overdue. This began on their honeymoon. The Prince decided to catch some readings. According to royal journalist Penny Junor, while the couple was on a 14-day Mediterranean cruise. Diana wasn’t too happy to read, rather than paying attention to her. “Diana wasn’t a very good reader, and she was annoyed he chose to cover his head in a book rather than sit down and talk to her,” Junor explained.
Over the years, the royal couple has been doing it from bad to worse. Political controversies, mudslinging, and explosive all-round interviews were taking place. It all lasted until the Prince and Princess were divorced on 28 August 1996. Unfortunately, Diana was killed just one year later in a car crash.
