Charles and Diana gave the very first interview since they got engaged in 1981. This could have been another hint that they wouldn’t end well. Charles went to Diana as if he was thinking of what he’d say if the reporter had asked the two if they were in love. She replied, “Of course,” with a scoff. Then Charles said, “Well, what is whatever in love means.”

Everything we learn about the personal lives of Princess Diana is thanks to the audiotapes she documented herself. She captured her side of the story on a series of recordings after she knew that her marriage to Prince Charles had failed. Then Dr. James Colthurst gave it to her close friend. Then he gave it to Andrew Morton, a journalist. Morton published the biography of Diana: Her True Story — In Her Own Words in 1992. Nobody knew Diana had a hand in the book’s creation until after she died.
