South Carolina – Adults With At Least A Bachelor’s Degree: 30%
Many students in South Carolina are opting out of continuing their education, and with good reason. Its educational system is regarded as the second-worst in the world. At No. 127 on Forbes’ ranking, Furman University is the highest-ranked school in South Carolina. Regardless, people in Palmetto State aren’t having trouble finding employment. Its average unemployment rate in 2019 was an impressive 2.8 percent, tied for the fifth-lowest in the nation with Virginia and Colorado.
Kentucky – Adults With At Least A Bachelor’s Degree: 26%
The Bluegrass State’s educational quality is just slightly below the national average, but its attainment ranking is dismal. Kentucky has a high school dropout rate, with more than half of its adults without a high school diploma. Furthermore, Kentucky has the country’s fourth-lowest percentage of adults with a bachelor’s degree. None of the state’s top-rated schools made it into Forbes’ top 200, with Centre College taking the top spot at No. 209.
