Unfortunately, in 1998, Moore and Willis decided to split up, and they had legally divorced after two years. At the age of nine, Rumer had experienced a broken family. In 2015, Rumer said to Larry King that her parents had done their best to make their relationship okay. Moore and Willis tried to fix it to make their daughters happy.

According to Rumer, “I never had to split up vacations or split up birthdays,” Rumer also added, “They always made an effort to do all of the family events still together and made such an effort to still have our family be as one unit, as opposed to two separate things, which I think really made an impact.” Rumer also shared with King that her parents were still good friends even after several years of divorce.
