Black paint or ‘Boot-Topping’?

For military personnel, boot-topping and boot paint is basically the same thing. If you don’t know that it is, bot-topping the thick and liquid-like coating used to lather between the waterline and the deck. Typically made of sulfur or lime, civilians would likely not be able to tell it apart from black paint! Meanwhile, military men can detect it without any problem whatsoever. Just another army thing.
