Even before she delivered her octuplets, Nadya was a media sensation already, with news channels, newspapers and websites all reporting about her unique pregnancy. People began recognizing her and despite the fact that not everybody knew her actual name, they knew her moniker: Octomom. Nadya tried to get out ahead of the story, or at the very least control what reports came out about her, and she thought of using the attention to support her large family financially. Nadya hired a public relations team shortly after she gave birth to her octuplets for her to be able to share her story with the public and to have some control over it, though this task proved extremely difficult.

The media attention Nadya received remained the same after she gave birth to her eight babies, so she gained plenty of critics who would often accuse her of coveting the spotlight and even said that this was the real reason why she decided to take risks and had all her children. Meanwhile, Nadya needed to cope with the public persona she had earned and raise fourteen kids! Nadya found her fame more and more difficult to handle as time passed. Her pregnancy and delivery of her many children was already controversial, but Californians also assailed her for wasting taxpayers’ money and practically embodying everything that was negative about modern American society, with some going as far as making threats!
