To be able to bring the bomb shelter back to life, John created a GoFundMe page with this explanation: “Hi, I’m John and I need some help restoring a vintage Fallout Shelter that I have uncovered in my backyard.” Since the shelter’s interior was in pretty good condition, John planned to rebuild the upper entryway using concrete to make it secure before fixing the inside. Also, he planned to change the staircase.

John wasn’t just going to let his amazing discovery go to waste, so he decided to turn the bomb shelter into a HAM shack, a man cave, and a Civil Defense Museum. He started to do some research regarding the Cold War and the reason why the citizens of Tucson built the shelters. John wanted to turn the shelter into a memorial of the time in history it was built. This is the reason why he began to gather Cold War memorabilia, such as sanitation kits, water supply barrels, HAM radios, and Geiger counters. He wanted to put them on display.
