Although she has had many romantic affairs, she declined marriage proposals from her suitors. One of the things she said about marriage was, “There are some who want to get married and others who don’t. I have never had an impulse to go to the altar. I am a difficult person to lead.”

Jane Austen was considered to be the first female author to master the ‘chick-lit’ genre. Many of the heroines in her stories are tangled in passionate romances but it seems that the author had no interest spending time with men. Although she got engaged once, that engagement was only for several hours since she quickly changed her mind. Austen instead pursued working on her craft her whole life.
