Navigating the book of reptiles
Dr. Allen walked over to an old bookshelf and pulled out a thick, dusty book full of pictures of reptiles. He laid it open on the table and began to flip through it slowly, his eyes scanning each page in search of something that matched our enigmatic visitor. “This volume covers numerous species,” he explained without lifting his head. I leaned forward slightly and tried to follow the illustrations, which showed creatures as fascinating as they were strange.

Specimens in jars all around us
My gaze wandered around the room for a few moments and I noticed rows of jars on shelves, each containing a strange specimen in a clear liquid. The atmosphere was like a museum of curiosities, almost unsettling. “You have an impressive collection here,” I remarked with genuine surprise. Dr. Allen laughed softly: “Yes, you could say that. Each piece has its own story – maybe another one will be added today.”
