During the summer of 2017, a giant lobster was freed at long last. Known as Louie, it was believed to be 132 years old or so. For two decades, the poor thing was trapped inside a tank located in a Long Island restaurant. Yamali, the owner, could not bear to cook and serve this amazing creature and decided to simply let the crustacean go. It was no small affair because the town of Hempstead hosted an official ceremony to honor his return to the wild! Bob Bayer, a lobster expert and the Lobster Institute director, said that the animal should thrive afterward. After all, it will be able to fend for itself since it can ward off predators with the help of its huge claws. Louie is only half the size of the biggest one in recorded history, but he is much bigger than the average lobster. A normal one is only three to four pounds!
