At 919 Pounds, Goliath Is The Biggest Tortoise On Record

Even though tortoises are generally huge, Goliath happens to be the biggest one on record. In the ‘60s, the hatchling was taken to Seffner’s Life Fellowship Bird Sanctuary. During his time there, he continued to group until he weighed 919 pounds. Most of them achieve their max size at 30 years old, but he never stopped! Giant tortoises are common in the Aldabra Atoll and the Galapagos Islands. It is believed that close to 25,000 of them live in these areas, although they used to be even more widespread. Goliath might have died in 2002, but his legacy lives on.

Lurch is an African Watusi steer who boasts the biggest horn circumference in his species. It clocks in at 37.5 inches! Sadly, it turned out to be his downfall. In 2010, the poor guy died when the cancer at the base spread to the rest of his body. While he is no longer around, his memory lives on to this day. Rest in peace, Lurch.
