Even though Harris, Brandenburg, and the rest of the investigators put a lot of effort and new strategy into what they are doing, still there was no answer to their case. But as it happens, all that information gathered is not considered to be trash. As a forensic biologist who had worked so hard to solve for Klaas’ case, there was a new idea that aroused. According to Brandenburg, the scientist called up to him and asked him “Ever thought about doing familial?”

Familial DNA Testing
This new strategy gave them hope of finally solving the case of Klaas’ after several years of trying. Specifically, the forensic biologist was referring to a more modern way compared to the traditional way of comparing DNA samples. This technique is called familial DNA testing. This allows the investigators to compare a genetic sample to those criminals who belong in the database. In this way, they can somehow find partial matches by identifying family members of a suspect until it gets perfectly fit to the DNA itself.
