Sara Gilbert made her television debut as Darlene in the hit show Roseanne. She played Dan’s daughter, and her holder character has a reputation for being a young girl sitcom character who is overtly masculine. Gilbert was almost not chosen by the producers because they didn’t think she was cute at all. It’s an excellent point, but Gilbert managed to imbue the character with a level of gravitas that most child actors simply cannot.
