Any resentment David may have had for her was eclipsed by his guilt and worry. He assured her that she was his top concern and that he would be available for her in any manner. He worked less hours and went to all of her doctor’s appointments, researching her disease so he could identify all of the symptoms. He had a better understanding of Bailey’s role, and their mutual affection for Katie led to the two of them becoming close very soon. Bailey always seemed to get more treats when David got home, and David was happy that his wife could care for the dog when he couldn’t.

It all started when he noticed his wife bringing their dog into the shower. He couldn’t understand why she would do this. Was it for convenience? Did the dog enjoy it? These questions puzzled him, but he didn’t want to seem intrusive by asking her directly. Instead, he simply observed, trying to make sense of the unusual habit. After all, it wasn’t a common thing to bathe with a dog. He began to wonder if there was more to this than he first assumed. Curiosity slowly consumed him, leading him to seek out answers in a more indirect way.
