After the finale of the sixth season, Nina Dobrev made up her mind to jump ship from The Vampire Diaries. A lot of fans assumed that it had something to do with her breakup with Ian Somerhalder, who played Damon on the teen series. This turned out to be wrong as they have remained good friends and had no issues working with each other. The real motivation behind her decision was that she “knew” that the character should only have a “six-season adventure.” According to the actress, she felt that Elena had already run her course and wanted to leave while the character was still at her peak.
