While the Beaver State’s busy beavers diligently pursue higher education, Oregon’s efficiency leaves much to be desired. It is ranked as the country’s 10th worst. On Forbes’ ranking, none of Oregon’s top-rated schools made the top 100, though Reed College in Portland came close at No. 105. In 2019, the overall statewide unemployment rate was 3.7 percent of the total population, almost the same as the national average.

While the Aloha State has strong educational statistics, the quality of its education isn’t anything to hula about. Hawaii’s universities have the fourth-lowest average quality in the world. The University of Hawaii – Manoa was the only school to make Forbes’ list. 385. On the plus side, Hawaii has the second-lowest percentage of graduates still paying off debt in the nation, at 43%.
