The Land of Lincoln, it turns out, is also the Land of Learning. Illinois has impressive educational attainment and educational efficiency scores, ranking 17th in both categories. Furthermore, the University of Chicago and Northwestern University, two of Illinois’ top-rated institutions, made Forbes’ top 20 list of best colleges. Unfortunately, some graduates in the state will have trouble finding work. Illinois had a much higher unemployment rate than the rest of the country in 2019, at 4.0 percent.

New York – Adults With At Least A Bachelor’s Degree: 40%

At first glance, the Empire State does not appear to be very impressive, ranking 18th in educational attainment and 16th in educational efficiency. On the other hand, New York is the only state with two Ivy League colleges, Columbia and Cornell, and all five of its top-rated schools made Forbes’ top 50 list. New York is ranked fifth in the nation for average university output thanks to these outstanding institutions. It also has the fifth-highest percentage of people with a graduate degree in the world.
