The North Star State rounds out the top ten on our list, and it deserves to be a beacon of hope for the rest of the world. Minnesota has the eighth-best educational attainment in the world but just the 18th best educational quality. To its downside, the Nation of 10,000 Lakes is still home to tens of thousands of people who owe money on student loans. Approximately two-thirds of the state graduates are in debt, with an average debt of $31,856 — the country’s third-highest share.

Utah is ranked 11th overall and 11th in both educational attainment and educational quality, according to WalletHub’s findings. Though you might find better education elsewhere, it does not seem to be as inexpensive. Utah has the lowest total student debt in any state, at $17,935, and only 40% of the state’s graduates are in debt, the lowest percentage in the nation. Brigham-Young University, ranked No. 95 on Forbes’ list, is the best school in Utah.
