Bigger Than They Thought

It was not easy to develop a venue suitable for the festival and suit all the expected attendees. The initial plan was to have it in Woodstock, the colony of summer arts that was a favorite among many musicians, but Wallkill, New York, was the festival’s first location. The locals expressed objections to it after finding out how big the event was going to be. In Bethel, the organizers moved the festival to farmland. They were not entirely ready for the 400,000 concertgoers who came, despite the schedule. The organizers were expecting only 50,000 individuals! Governor Rockefeller considered sending the National Guard to assist with crowd control. The county of Sullivan ended up declaring a state of emergency!

No Place For Discrimination

At Woodstock, there was no place for discrimination. No matter their race, age, and gender, anyone can attend. Some parents have even brought with them their children. Just look at the little one here. She looks excited about being there! It’s just adorable. There were also babies attending the festival besides the children… well, technically it was their mothers who came to the event. Sadly, at Woodstock, some women suffered miscarriages.
